Icesnake’s Add-on Emporium

[Nov 19, 2009] by: Icesnake Frostfyre

I’m thinking of doing a weekly column for WoW add-ons, if there’s any interest in the listener/readership here. The idea is that I will try them out and recommend them for general use or specific classes, along with links to where you can get them.

To give you an idea of my qualifications, I have been playing RPGs since 1976 (Dungeons & Dragons first edition!), and MMORPGs since Everquest (the first one). I’ve played through EQ, Asheron’s Call, Diablo II, and now World of Warcraft (remember when “raid” meant “level 58+ in Zul’Gurub?” I do). I’ve been a testing engineer and low-level (e.g., code assembled by hand into machine language) software developer, with published programs “out there” since Compute! was a magazine. I raid at least twice a week now, and run a smallish Guild.

So… Anyone want to see this feature? Or shall I forget it and go back to taunting Yogg-Saron?

I personally think it’s a great idea for a mod column. People are always doing searches for new mods . Go for it!

This is a good idea, I have taken some of the recommendations given and used them. Others I have tried and decided they were not for me, VuhDu over Healbot for example, but it’s always good to get new ideas of what addons are out there.

There’s definitely an interested audience out there for things of this nature.

I do a lot with my mods, so on a personal level I’d be more interested if you were to go out and look at addons that you never hear people talk about – bring something new to the table.

But there are always new players coming to the game, so sticking to the basics is important as well. As are mods used primarily for raiding.

I think you’ve got potential for some real success if you spread it around and offer a variety of information that covers both the basics and the unheard of.

    That’s my advice, anyway.

All right, this is a “go” then. Here’s a teaser from the first mod report; this was written and recorded as a tribute to Patrick (http://twitter.com/notpatrick) when he left the world of WoW podcasting:

… this week’s Mod of the Week [is] GoGoPet. … GoGoPet is a One-key solution for calling random pet critters to your side…

The MP3 file has been submitted. More to come!

I have submitted two add-ons so far (audio for the first one sent, audio for the second to follow). We’ll see what Jason and Modem think.
