You asked about what do you do when you have a lot of alts… as someone who has 10 80’s, one of each class, I can give you my perspective. For most of WotLK I wasn’t part of a raiding guild, instead I raided in pugs on as many of my 80’s as I could. Joining my current guild and becoming a main tank… and ultimately an officer /raid leader, meant that I had to focus on one main character. Eventually though my warrior had everything it could use outside of ICC and so I could continue adventuring on other toons.

I fall in and out of love with my 80’s and will spend time focusing on each of them usually on a specific spec with a goal in mind for either pve or pvp. I spend tons of gold gemming and regearing when I get tired of a spec or decide I want to try something different. Most of this is supplied through each of the professions that I have maxed out.

The biggest issue I run into is sheer lack of desire to run any more heroics. A few of my more neglected alts could still but it is extremely hard to stay motivated and run VH for the 100th time.

I’m actually very jealous of all the podcasts and bloggers talking about leveling alts because I have no character slots on my main server open. This means that I have to level on an outside server without any support from higher level characters. Additionally it means that I can’t hang out in guild chat while I level. I could dish out enough BoA’s for every class in the game but I’d have to delete an 80 or transfer a character in order to use them.

The biggest motivation for playing other toons is seeing someone do something awesome and then having to go try and do the same thing! Or when talking to raiders or members about specs gearing and then having to go do the research and try things out myself so that I know what I’m talking about. Overall it helps me to be a better raid leader to know exactly what every class has in its toolkit and to put myself in their shoes when looking at the mechanics of a fight and how best to deal with it.

Sorry for the wall of text and love the show!

I’ll start off by saying; you might be a blue wowphile if….You have 5 or more level 80s! Nine or ten, ahem Modem and What’s my man, kinda makes you a purple wowphile or something…lol. Sadly, I’m only a green wowphile, since I’ve only got two 80’s with a shammy that’s close.

This is going to be my “good Modem” post, since he made my day with his comments about his BRD run!!!As I was listening, I thought about my comments about 4-5 shows ago, about what’s epic, and 3-manning a 5-man BRD instance (Set for 50-55) is TOTALLY epic, imho.

Needless to say, it was a great show, and the handfish stuff was hilarious…somebody posted some video of them in motion from some BBC documentary (looked like Planet Earth), and it had me laughing about Murlocs. It kind of reminds me about the first time I remembered hearing about Nagas outside of WoW. My wife was reading a book about fairy tales and legends and I saw a picture and story about Nagas, and the Indian origins of them, which was pretty interesting. In general, Blizzard does a pretty good job of weaving real world lore into the game lore, and it probably adds to the game massive global appeal. I can’t imagine them knowing about Handfish…but I will say this, there are a lot of smart and creative folks at Blizzard, and maybe somebody saw the Planet Earth when they were working on Warcraft, and had an A-Ha moment.
