World Event: Will You Be Lucky Enough To Have Deathwing Kill You?
During the Quests and Lore panel at BlizzCon we heard that, “If you see Deathwing he will kill you”. It looks like that will hold true with information regarding the Cataclysm world event that was recently announced in a blue post. And let me just say, I am incredibly excited for this.
I am still holding to my hopes that there are some interactive events leading up to Cataclysm along with The Shattering, but with release just a month away I’m not sure how much we are going to get. But this event where Deathwing randomly rains down a mouthful of fire on a zone sounds awesome and I hope I am lucky enough to have Deathwing kill me.
Once free to terrorize the world, Deathwing will randomly choose territories in Azeroth to attack each day until his ruinous reign is brought to an end. A blackened sky will be the only warning before every living creature caught in his approach is consumed by his terrible fire. The unfortunate victims of his malice will receive a rare Feat of Strength… as well as a repair bill and corpse run.
There is very little warning once he decides to strafe a zone. If you’re not in the zone already, you have virtually no chance of sacrificing yourself to his flame.
If you’re in the zone, you’re almost definitely screwed.
This will be specific to the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, though he will choose his locations quite indiscriminately.
The achievement is a Feat of Strength since it won’t be available forever. Given the rate at which this occurs and the random way in which he chooses to attack, virtually everyone who earns the Feat of Strength will get it by accident — it’s a wrong place at the wrong time sort of thing.
Those are some of the quotes from Zarhym on what we can expect when Deathwing rises to start laying waste to Azeroth. This last quote is one of my favorites because it’s not just players that he will kill, but everything in his path will die.
Because his flames literally kill any creature, critter, NPC, or player in Deathwing’s path, there are a few places we’re not having him go for gameplay reasons. The large majority of the zones on the two continents are fair game though.
