This is the Icesnake, and I am here to tell you about another pair of add-ons to help with your gathering professions.

Back in Segment 3 for WoW 5.0.4 I told you about Routes and GatherHUD. This time I’m going to tell you how to use Routes with a different way of displaying your directional information, an add-on called TomTom.

If you listened to Segment 3, you already know that Routes will plan a route for you to make it easy to find all the herb and ore locations in a zone. In one respect, Routes is superior to the Carbonite gathering system, because you can easily create a route to locate just one (or several) types of herbs or ore. Thus, if you just need a bunch of iron, you can create a route that skips tin and herbs; or if you only want Mageroyal, you can skip all the other herb types in the zone.

Now, if you prefer the “crazy arrow” directional indicator to the heads-up display provided by GatherHUD, you want TomTom. Used in conjunction with Routes, TomTom will place the crazy arrow on your screen and point to your next location. It also changes color to indicate if you’ve strayed off the route; green for “close enough,” yello or “better correct this,” and red for “man, are you ever lost!” You can easily switch the arrow on and off, as well. Routes provides a simple method to bind keys for that purpose; I used F8 and Ctrl-F8 because I never use them for anything else, but of course the choice is up to you.

Having tried both, I prefer the TomTom crazy arrow to the GatherHUD display. You might try both and see which you prefer.

Both Routes and TomTom are available from Curse.
