Let the drinking, ram riding, and more drinking begin! Brewfest 2010 is upon us and it’s time for all races in World of Warcraft to indulge in the favorite past time of the Dwarves: drinking beer.

It looks as though Brewfest this year has no changes or upgrades from last year. So that prompts the question: should we expect holidays to provide new features and new rewards each year?

For players who have done Brewfest last year there isn’t much of an incentive to partake in Brewfest this year if you are looking for something brand new.

Now, if you just feel like a divergence from your regular in game activities (eg Daily Quests, Heroics, etc) the activities that go along with a holiday such as Brewfest are a fun way to give you something to do that only comes along once a year.

For new players or players who are giving their alts a run through Brewfest, prepare to experience one of the most fun holidays in the World of Warcraft year. Brewfest is fun because it’s a holiday centered around a party-like atmosphere. The whole experience of Brewfest is literally pure “fun”, and I think that’s why players are drawn to it each year and want to celebrate it as much as we do.

But what about Brewfest rewards? Should the item level and stats of gear such as the Tankard O’ Terror scale each year? Personally, yeah, I think it would be nice for items to scale each year. Last year dual-wielding Tankards was great for Rogues and Death Knights. This year, with the release of the Icecrown Citadel 5-Player dungeons, the Icecrown Citadel Raids, and Emblem of Frost rewards, the Tankards are only a temporary fill-in item until you get something better. (If you run heroics with any regularity you will probably get something better soon.)

So while I don’t expect holidays to change each year, I do think keeping gear rewards current and relevant should be mandatory for holiday events. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts on Brewfest and holiday rewards in general.

Most of the big news coming out about the next patch involves the new Argent Coliseum dungeon and raid encounters, as well as changes to classes. But it seems like the story that is being overlooked is the future of the poor Oracle and Frenzyheart orphans who so desperately need to be adopted by a loving adventurer.

These children have been orphaned as a result of the war that rages between their two factions in Sholazar Basin. But now, for mere minutes a day, you can make the lives of these poor young creatures happier and more fulfilled.

That’s right, I’m talking about a new orphan quest for Children’s Week up on the Public Test Realm. There is a quest giver near the fountain in Dalaran who gives you the option to look after one of these two orphans. When I selected the Oracles orphan, the Frenzyheart quest was no longer available to me. As of now I don’t know if we will be able to complete both sides or if Blizzard intends for us to choose only one, (much like we have to do in deciding which faction to align with in Sholazar).

While this news is certainly not anything to get people jumping out of their seats about, it is a nice addition to the Children’s week holiday and gives us a new orphan to show the world to.

I just finished up the Midsummer Fire Festival achievements and I must say that a great tip that I learned was: Sell Back Your Shoulders: [Mantle of the Fire Festival]

Now, if you want to have the complete set of gear then obviously this won’t work for you, but it helped me to have more Burning Blossoms on hand to buy the pet.

All you have to do is buy the set of gear, then do the Burning Hot Pole Dance, then sell back the shoulders and get your 100 Burning Blossoms back. I was a bit torn about doing this because it was kind of cool having big candles on my shoulders, but in the end I decided to sell them back anyway.

That’s a quick tip for you. Enjoy the rest of the festival!
